History |
Development of this currency converter site started in July 1997. It is aimed to help with the euro specific conversion rules.
The software underwent many modifications to thereafter bring new functionalities suggested by the users.
It was tested and is compatible with almost the whole of the navigators and operating systems that enable Javascript.
On December 31, 1998, the author had the idea to reserve the names of 655957.com field (6.55957 is the rate of the euro against the Franc)
and 195583.com (1.95583 is the rate of the euro against the German mark).
These fixed rates had been just fixed by the European union.
Newspapers then immediately spoke about this site. It immediately knew much success.
It is available in 5 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian) since May 1999, in 11 languages since January 2000
and Japanese since July 2000.
On 2 january 2001, introduction of Greek drachma in Euroland : 1 EUR = 340.750 GRD
On august 2001, creation of FXTOP company. Website transfered from author (Laurent PELE) to FXTOP company

| Currency conversion rules |
All the softwares on this web site apply all the right rules to convert any currencies.
There are one of the only currency converters to do this, due to the specific conversion rules with the euro.
The calculators use definitive exchange rates of the euro against the 12 national currencies of Euroland.
All official conversion rules between currencies of the Euroland are applied :
Amounts in euro are rounded to 2 digits (22.224 => 22.22, 22.226 => 22.23,
22.225 => 22.23).
To convert an amount from a local currency to another one (ie from German Mark to French Franc),
the internal intermediate amount in euros is computed with 3 digits.
Amount in currencies are displayed with the right precision (0 or 2 digits).
Conversions from an "out" currency to an "in" currency are made with an intermediate amount in euro to 2 digits.
Conversions from an "out" currency to another "out" currency are made with an intermediate amount in euro with maximal precision.
Amounts can be entered with a comma or dot to separate the decimal part.
The euro rates against the out currencies are refreshed daily (from monday to friday) and are the official ones published by the
European Central Bank
For Gold, Silver, Platinium and Palladium, rates and amounts are expressed in grams (1 ounce=28.3495 g).
Before 31/12/1998 the Euro Exchange rates are theorical ones, use XEU code to see ECU exchange rates (with converter in the past or historic rates page)

<LIBEN> is the currency label in English (in fact, it is the name of the country)
<LIBFR> is the currency label in French
<ISOCODE> is the three letter code for the currency
<SHLIB> is the short label, for example "$" for US Dollar, "F" for French Franc
<NBDEC> is the number of digits after the decimal point, for example 2 for US Dollar because people use cents for Dollars but 0 for Italian Lira because they have no cents.
<MODEC> is a number corresponding to the importance or the category of the currency (for example 3 for a currency belonging to Euroland) )
